As part of the EU project "The Sign-Hub," a documentary film was made that celebrated its (digital) world premiere at the FEAST conference in Paris in June 2020. The documentary film "We were there... we are here" is based on interviews and life stories of older deaf people from France, Germany, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and Turkey.
The interviews were conducted by teams of deaf researchers as part of the European Commission-funded research project "The Sign Hub: Preservation, Research, and Promotion of the Linguistic, Historical, and Cultural Heritage of European Sign Language Communities through an Integral Resource" (Horizon 2020). Jens-Michael Cramer conducted interviews with deaf seniors in Germany as part of the research projects "The Sign Hub" and "(In)visible Life Stories." This project aims to systematically document, preserve, evaluate, and make accessible for scientific and social use the extensive linguistic and cultural heritage of older deaf people in Germany with the help of selected interviews with deaf people in Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt.
