Appreciation of our commitment to inclusion by Dr. Faraj Remmo
Dr. Faraj Remmo, educationalist at the University of Bielefeld and champion for inclusion, has awarded us, the Institute for German Sign Language and Communication of the Deaf (IDGS), a "Danke (english: Thank You) Sculpture" in October 2020.
The "Danke Sculpture", which has already been awarded to more than 230 other individuals and institutions worldwide - including such renowned personalities as Stephen Hawking and Margarethe von Trotta as well as institutions such as "Reporter ohne Grenzen e.V.", as well as various universities worldwide and, for example, the Hamburg scientist and activist Lars Bruhn from the Center for Disability Studies - is awarded by Dr. Remmo to honor outstanding commitment to inclusion. Inspired by the "Wander-Partizipationspreis" (english: traveling award for participation), which he also created and which is awarded every three months as part of the "Danke Bielefeld" campaign to local people and institutions who publicly support inclusion, the "Danke Sculpture" now offers Dr. Remmo the opportunity to honor people and institutions worldwide for their commitment.
This sculpture is now displayed in the IDGS office. It thus motivates and reminds all staff and students to continue working every day towards the common goal of advancing inclusion and promoting diversity.
We sincerely thank Dr. Remmo for awarding us the sculpture and thereby recognizing and honoring our work.
Our thank you letter to him can be read here.
