The second event of the lecture series "International Sign Language Research" took place in cooperation with the student teaching project "Diversity and Deaf Studies". The speaker Silvia Gegenfurtner gave the lecture on May 17 entitled "The privilege to hear. Learning to think critically of Audism." In the first part of the two-hour evening event, the speaker first defined the term "audism" and then named possible causes for the often societal superiority of hearing people over deaf people. In the second part, Gegenfurtner focused on the privilege of being able to hear and gave impulses on how they can behave as allies. This was followed by an open discussion in the last section, where questions were clarified and experiences were shared. We thank the more than 300 people for coming. Special thanks to Silvia Gegenfurtner!
