On November 4 and 5, 2023, the student conference GSD+ Meet Up took place at IDGS. Students of sign languages, sign language interpreting and deaf studies from all over Germany came to Hamburg.
After a brief welcome, the program began with a presentation on the DGS-Korpus project. The student research group TiZNA - Deaf-inclusive Central Emergency Department then introduced itself. The highlights of the morning program were a keynote speech by Christian Rathmann and a panel discussion with experts on the topic of "Requirements and expectations of sign language interpreters".
The afternoon program was held on the premises of the IDGS after the lunch break. Workshops on the topics of deafblindness, theater, music and poetry as well as presentations on the challenges of starting a career as an interpreter and the student research project TiZNA were met with great interest by the participants.
The students rounded off the successful day full of input and exchange with chilli sin carne, drinks and a varied program at the premises of the Hamburg Association for the Deaf. On Sunday, breakfast was shared there and the meeting officially ended.
On behalf of the organizing team, many thanks to all the supporting hands. It was a wonderful event with lots of fun and warmth!
