The Institute is delighted about the successful motion in the Parliament and the recognition of the injustice against deaf people. We congratulate Christian Ebmeyer and all those involved on this moving moment!
Translation of the DGS-video: Hello, yesterday, the Hamburg Parliament discussed a motion that aimed at apologizing to deaf people and providing compensation to victims. Specifically, it concerns the suffering experienced by deaf people as a result of language deprivation. We have now received information that the motion has been approved, and we applaud this decision. I am currently attending a small conference in Leipzig and am therefore unable to be there in person, so I am sending my applause via this video. Congratulations on the success of your efforts and joint work, and on achieving your goal. Special thanks go above all to Christian Ebmeyer and the working group of the German Deaf Association, who initiated everything, and to the SPD, Green Party, Left Party, and CDU parties, who made it possible for the motion to be submitted. We would also like to thank the victims who had the courage to tell their stories publicly and thus made an important contribution. We say to all of you: THANK YOU! We at the IDGS very much welcome this development and look forward to a positive future together. We hope that solutions can be found for the injustices and experiences suffered and that this will make it easier to come to terms with what happened.
