A seminar on the amendment of the current professional code of conduct (COC) for sign language interpreters (including deaf sign language interpreters) took place in Berlin on Saturday, 27 January 2018. Various groups, institutions, and associations gathered to discuss the new COC and contribute suggestions during 4 different workshops. Simone Scholl and Annika Herrmann represented the IDGS at the event. The program included special keynote speeches and a mutual “4 corners” exchange, which allowed the participants to formulate wishes and goals from different perspectives. For the time being, the COC will remain a statement of intent without legal enforceability. We nonetheless appreciate the open exchange and wish the participants all the best in implementing the new results.
