On Monday, 11 June 2018, Ms. Valentina Aristodemo of the CNRS in Paris gave a guest lecture at the IDGS entitled "Visible scales and degrees in Italian Sign Language". She started by introducing the latest findings of her 2017 doctoral thesis and presented various signs for references to scales and comparative constructions in Italian Sign Language (LIS). She then examined the data in terms of two competing semantic analyses and used various tests to illustrate why their data supported a scalar analysis. Following the well-attended lecture, many questions were asked. The discussions continued during dinner with staff and students and other current IDGS guests. Overall it was a successful scientific exchange and a really enjoyable evening.
