On 4 June 2018, Franziska Winkler and Katharina Mevissen from Berlin visited the IDGS to present extracts from their literature project "handverlesen" (hand-picked),
which promotes and translates German sign language literature. It seeks to initiate the production of new sign language literature. The aim is to provide sign language literature and artists with medial and literary-political representation by promoting new sign language poetry; by translating sign language poetry into spoken language and contemporary lyrics into sign language as well as by visualising sign language poetry in the literary scene: publication in a digital library and staging readings/performances with deaf and hearing authors. Various workshops and a book publication are planned as part of this project.
