The deaf-hearing author team, Thomas Finkbeiner, Nina-Kristin Meister and Liona Paulus, have signed and written the first bilingual-bimodal book in DGS and German. The book is entitled "100 Fragen und Antworten rund um die Deutsche Gebärdensprache (DGS)" (100 questions and answers on German Sign Language) and will be published by the Buske publishing house in November 2023.
On 9 October 2023, the book was presented at the University and State Library in Hamburg alongside the DGS calendar, which is published for the fifth year in a row. As part of the presentation, the authors explainedhow the book can be used with texts in written German and videos in DGS, which can be opened via a QR code. The book is also designed to be interactive, so that readers can think about questions in the book first, before looking at the answers on the subsequent pages. The book and calendar presentation was held bimodally, which means that all content was presented simultaneously in DGS and spoken German. A shortdiscussion session, with interpreters present, and a DGS practice completed the evening.
