On Thursday 11 April 2024, a campaign took place at the University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), in which the student projects "TiZNA" from IDGS and the "Teddy Hospital" from the UKE invited pupils from the Elbschule to treat their cuddly toys together with the teddy doctors.
A total of 16 children from first and second grade were allowed to examine, doctor and vaccinate their cuddly toys in small groups. An X-ray and ECG were also included. Finally, a joint operation was performed on Siggi the doll, during which the children were able to help out and learn a lot about the body and its organs.
The aim of the "Teddy Hospital" project is to take away children's fear of visiting the doctor and to teach them about the body, health and illness. The project is financially supported by the Marburger Bund, the association of salaried and civil servant doctors in Germany, among others, and is committed to child-orientated medical education. In cooperation with deaf and hearing sign language interpreters, we were able to make the project accessible in sign language and give the kids and their cuddly toys a great morning.
