Alexandre Bloxs from the EUD visits the IDGS

On 11 June 2025, at the invitation of Simon Kollien, we welcomed a high-ranking representative of the European Deaf communities as a guest at the IDGS to present on the topic of “Deaf Politics”: Alexandre Bloxs is Deaf and works as Policy Manager for the European Union of the Deaf (EUD) in Brussels. He reported on the EUD, its structure, its tasks, and its political work in the service of Deaf communities in Europe. Alexandre also explained the English technical terms “polity,” “politics,” and “policy” introduced in the lecture using many practical examples. A team of Deaf and hearing interpreters ensured cross-language communication using International Sign, DGS, and English.
The presentation was followed by a lively discussion. A big thank you to Alexandre for his openness and willingness to share, and to Simon Kollien for organizing the event.
