On September 28, 2025, the IDGS and the Center for Chinese Sign Language and Deaf Studies at Shanghai University, in collaboration with the Confucius Institute in Hamburg, organized a cultural and linguistic dialogue. In the beautiful YU Garden, representatives from the communities introduced the deaf communities in Germany and China. This was followed by a lively exchange during a panel discussion on the differences and similarities between the institutions, cultures, deaf communities, and experiences. There were also exciting questions from the interested audience. Particularly impressive was the online lecture by deaf professor Guowei Yang from Henan University, who presented facts and figures on the situation of deaf people in China.
