On September 22nd and 23rd, 2025 a workshop on the topic of "Semantic Networks“ took place at the institute. The workshop included a talk by Simon De Deyne from the University of Melbourne, who flew all the way from Australia to Hamburg to share his perspective from research on spoken languages. The workshop was organised by the SemaSign team – Hope E. Morgan, Margaret Odhiambo, Lisa Loy, and external member Mariana Martins – in collaboration with colleagues from the SIGNifica project – Brendan Costello, Iñaki Montero, Kirill Aksenov und Saúl Villameriel – at the Basque Center on Cognition, Brain & Language (BCBL) in Spain. During the two days of the workshop, there was a lively exchange between participants with the aim of finding out to what extent research methods from spoken language research in the field of semantic networks can also be applied to sign language research. Furthermore, the Corpus Team was represented at the workshop by Gabriele Langer and a presentation by Thomas Hanke. We would like to thank everyone involved for their support and enthusiastic participation, as well as thank the interpreters for their assistance!
