From 3rd to 4th of Mai 2019, the workshop SignNonmanuals took place in Graz, Austria. Elena Jahn and a group of MA-students from the IDGS organized an excursion to the conference and the DGS-Korpus-team was prominently present with two presentations and a poster, which was created in cooperation with the research team of the DePaul University in Chicago. Marc Schulder und Thomas Hanke have investigated ways of „Identifying Negation in the DGS-Korpus“. Three student co-workers from the corpus project gave a very interesting talk about gender-fair language in translations from DGS to German. Maren Brumm, Thomas Hanke and the team from the DePaul University have presented a poster concerned with the „Use of Avatar Technology for Automatic Mouth Gesture Recognition“.
The MA-students of the excursion will summarize their experiences in an article in DAS ZEICHEN and will present their results in cooperation with Annika Herrmann and Elena Jahn within a seminar. Altogether, we truly enjoyed the interesting and valuable exchange with other researchers during the workshop and we brought back a lot of new ideas for future research.
