Production Studies
(The video presents the text in German Sign Language)
In production studies, sign language habits and forms of expression are of interest. Participants usually come to the sign lab, sit in front of a monochrome background and look at a computer screen. Depending on the research question, the participants are given various tasks with the aim of producing signs. This could be, for example, describing a picture, telling a story, repeating a DGS sentence shown or producing a suitable sign for a word. A camera records the sign language production of the participants. There are no answers in the sense of “right” or “wrong”. This is how we want to explore how DGS works.
