Sarah Bauer, born in 1995 in Tübingen in BaWü, studied Sign Languages with a minor in educational sciences in her bachelor's degree at the University of Hamburg. During her subsequent master's program in Sign Languages, she worked as a student assistant to the institute's director and as a tutor, a.o. She sought interdisciplinary exchange by attending seminars at the Faculty of Education (Department EW2, Hearing and Communication) on her own initiative and by completing an internship with her own student research project. “Thanks to the KURT AND KÄTHE KLINGER - STIFTUNG scholarship, I have the opportunity to complete an individual doctorate. In doing so, my project is tailored to my previous areas of interest: metaphors in German Sign Language (L1) and written German (L2). Besides linguistic aspects, I will also investigate the (written) language acquisition of metaphors, considering the importance of metaphors both in and for (foreign) language teaching. I am very grateful for this opportunity and look forward to an intensive time.”
