Within the framework of our joint Master's thesis entitled "Use of legal terminology in German Sign Language - suggestions for adequate translation", we dealt with the question of how translation of legal terminology in German written language can be successfully adapted to the target group of hearing-impaired DGS users. On the basis of various theoretical aspects, we approached the question by means of an empirical study. During the five-month research phase, we were supported by a one-time grant from the Karl H. Ditze Foundation. Among other things, the foundation supports research projects in the humanities at the University of Hamburg, with the aim of supporting the final phase of studies. We are very grateful for these grants as well as for the suggestion and supportive cooperation of Prof. Annika Herrmann and substitute professor Szilárd Rácz-Engelhardt.
