On Thursday 25 April 2024, the university once again opened its doors for Boys' Day.
We were delighted to take part in this Boys' Day 2024 and invited them to IDGS. We are delighted that the young people were able to gain an insight into our everyday working life and that we were able to make our students of tomorrow aware of us and our degree programmes.
13 boys visited us this year for a "visual taster of the sign language and sign language interpreting degree programmes". We had put together a colourful programme.
Liona Paulus welcomed the boys here at IDGS. Afterwards, Simone Scholl and our student Aaron Kollien shared lots of exciting information about the field of sign language interpreting. The boys were then able to get to know lots of sign language during the taster course thanks to Simon Kollien and Alexander Eisenzimmer. After a relaxing break, everyone had a look at our library before Julian Bleicken gave a talk on the exciting DGS corpus project. The boys were also allowed to record signs they had researched themselves from the Digital Dictionary of German Sign Language in the film studio. It became clear that the young people are already very familiar with the technology presented to them.
During the final round with Liona Paulus and other IDGS colleagues, the first signs they had learnt, such as "thank you", were used independently.
We all had a lot of fun and we are looking forward to the future.
