The IDGS had another visitor from Brazil on 13 May 2024, our colleague Carlos Rodrigues, who is a professor at UFSC in Florianópolis, with which we have a partnership agreement. The workshop focused on sign language interpreting and the current state of the art of research in this field in the South American country. Our colleagues Andrea Schaffers, Simone Scholl and Britta Harms gave a brief introduction to our degree programmes and the exciting history of the IDGS before Carlos Rodrigueas gave a presentation. This was very impressive, as it became clear that, in Brazil, there have already been over a hundred master's and doctoral theses at three universities since 2004 on the subject of sign language interpreting and translation alone. A third of these were written by deaf graduates. This was followed by an intensive exchange, which will hopefully lead to the UFSC and us, the UHH, being able to motivate more students, doctoral candidates, researchers and lecturers to take part in international exchanges in the future. A colleague's birthday cake added a delicious culinary touch to the workshop!
