On 29 May, Hope Morgan presented the next guest lecture. Hope Morgan started the SemaSign project at the IDGS at the beginning of the year and presented more details about the 5-year project in the presentation. The project analyzes Kenyan and German Sign Language in the area of semantics, but also includes aspects of phonology. One study will collect semantic associations, i.e. what deaf Kenian and German signers think of when seeing the sign RED. Deaf Kenian signers often recall the signs COLOR, BLOOD or FLOWER. The aim is to build a comparable data set for the two sign languages over the course of the project. This data can then be used by other research projects in the future. Thank you very much for the interesting insight!
