In cooperation with the Institute of Romance Studies, there was another guest lecture at IDGS. On 17 January 2025, Andrew Nevins gave a lecture entitled “Event-splitting and the development of CENA, a young sign language”. CENA is the sign language of a village community in north-eastern Brazil. Andrew presented the development of this language and drew a comparison with the widely used Brazilian Sign Language LIBRAS. The focus was on how the signers reproduce events and which sign sequence is used. As an additional comparison, sign languages from Turkey were used - the Central Taurus Sign Language (CTSL) and the surrounding Turkish Sign Language (TİD). Thank you very much for this bridge-building and inspiring lecture!
