On 25 February 2025, the University of Hamburg hosted Unitag 2025 under the motto "Come to the University of Hamburg".
This popular event for students in the career orientation phase offered a choice of about 170 events.
As in the previous year, there was an extensive and varied program of lectures, information booths and advice on the courses of study at our university.
The IDGS was also strongly represented: Liona Paulus and Britta Harms presented the IDGS and our study programs in a 45-minute presentation in the full lecture hall C.
In addition, they gave the young, interested and very engaged audience an introduction to the topic of sign languages and sign language interpreting and cleared up so-called "myths". The students participated with great interest.
Another item on the program was a 45-minute DGS taster course with our colleague Alexander Eisenzimmer. Alexander taught the highly motivated students important information about sign languages and how to interact with Deaf people, as well as their first DGS signs. The students had a lot of fun practicing what they had learned in small dialogues, e.g. introducing themselves, asking how they feel or what city they are from.
Two of our sign language interpreters provided barrier-free communication during both parts of the program.
It was a pleasure for us to share our fascination for sign languages and sign language interpreting with young people.
We hope to see you again soon at the IDGS!
