Our colleague Marc Schulder was invited by Elisabeth André and Annemarie Friedrich to the Faculty of Applied Computer Science at the University of Augsburg. On November 13, 2025, he opened the new colloquium series “AI Meets Human Data: Learning from Language, Vision, and Interaction” with his lecture "Computer-Assisted Sign Language Linguistics: A Sign Language Perspective on Language Technologies and Resources." The lecture presented linguistic corpora and sign language technologies, how they are related, and the technical and ethical challenges involved in working with them.
The following day, Marc also took part in Annemarie Friedrich's master's course “Search Engines and Neural Information Retrieval,” where he was able to exchange ideas with the students. Building on his presentation, three articles on sign language technology research were examined and discussed in group work.
