On 14 June 2023, we had Jonna Kaßner as our guest. She is currently doing her doctorate at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg and shared the exciting topic of her doctoral thesis with us in her presentation "Escape Games as a method for language teaching".
The numerous participants, IDGS students and staff, were able to explore the principles and advantages of Escape Games as an innovative pedagogical tool for promoting language acquisition in foreign language teaching and gain insights into the design process of an Escape Game. It was presented how puzzles and interactive tasks can be designed to enhance learners' language comprehension and communication skills. It also explained how Escape Games can be adapted to the specific needs of learners to support language comprehension and use.
A major focus of the event was on practical implementation. Thus, the participants got the opportunity to test different tasks of an Escape Game related to language teaching in small teams and to discuss how tasks could be designed specifically for DGS.
We received valuable suggestions for effectively integrating Escape Games into language teaching and were able to discuss this further with our guest over lunch.
Thank you very much for this very exciting event!
