SignSeeing Tour: A webpage-based city tour in DGS
This webpage-based city tour was created by an anniversary project of the University of Hamburg carried out by the Institute for German Sign Language and Communication for the Deaf (IDGS). It was financed by the Anniversary Fund (01/2019-12/2019). Information in German Sign Language is provided on individual city district tours with selected sights in Hamburg. Students and staff have worked together in seminars and beyond on the films, collected information, prepared them in German Sign Language and provided them with German subtitles.
From a scientific point of view, two aspects are important here: firstly, the sign language presentation of visual concepts that have a real model - such as the Landungsbrücken or the St. Michael's church - and the associated descriptions that are oriented towards the actual object. On the other hand, the name signs for e.g. Hamburg districts and certain sights. Here the origin and the historical development are of great interest, as well as the process of the emergence of such signs, e.g. for the Elbphilharmonie.
We wish you a great time on the Hamburg SignSeeing Tour!
